Haiku Island Press will be returning to run poetry making sessions at the Department of Renal Medicine, Cardiac Renal Centre (CRC), in Cork University Hospital (CUH) this Summer, with the aim of making a limited edition book.

Patients have been invited to join sessions running in the ward. These continue the haiku making started last year and will run over a series of sessions with the Monday and Tuesday afternoon groups, as well as the staff!

Originally from Japan, haiku are short three line poems, often evoking the natural world. Haiku are particularly suited to the ward setting in that they can be made quickly, collaboratively and with mindfulness.

This kind of poetic form engages the imagination, explores the potential of metaphor and inspires a connection with the present moment.

A limited edition book of this collection of poems will be made onsite in the hospital during the autumn.
