CUH Arts Programme – Poetry Making Sessions

May 27, 2016 | By | No Comments

S0331437Haiku Island Press will be returning to run poetry making sessions at the Department of Renal Medicine, Cardiac Renal Centre (CRC), in Cork University Hospital (CUH) this Summer, with the aim of making a limited edition book.

Patients have been invited to join sessions running in the ward. These continue the haiku making started last year and will run over a series of sessions with the Monday and Tuesday afternoon groups, as well as the staff!

Originally from Japan, haiku are short three line poems, often evoking the natural world. Haiku are particularly suited to the ward setting in that they can be made quickly, collaboratively and with mindfulness.

This kind of poetic form engages the imagination, explores the potential of metaphor and inspires a connection with the present moment.

A limited edition book of this collection of poems will be made onsite in the hospital during the autumn.

Kindly funded by Cork City Arts Office and Arts & Health Cork, and supported by the CUH Arts Programme with Joanne Lyons, Clinical Nurse Manager and staff of the Dialysis ward.

Funding granted!

February 26, 2016 | By | No Comments

We’re thrilled to share some good news this week. Cork City Arts Office and the HSE have kindly granted us funding to complete work with the Dialysis Unit in Cork University Hospital.

That gives us the resources to make poetry with patients on the ward. It will culminate with a participatory bookmaking session in the hospital.

So many people have supported the research phase of this and we are grateful for their continued assistance: Maeve Dineen in Cork City Hall, Edelle Nolan Arts Officer CUH, Joanne Lyons Clinical Nurse Manager and Aidan Warner HSE South Arts and Health.
